Rolex, formerly known as Wilsdorf and Davis (W&D), was renamed ROLEX in 1908 by Hans Wilsdorf in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

The original Rolex logo was a palm with five fingers spread out to show that its products were entirely hand-carved, and later evolved into a crown shape to signify its status as a king in the watch industry.

Rolex watches were so exceptional and of such high quality that in 1914 and 1915 they were continuously awarded A-class certificates by the British Chronometer Observatory.
